Uma Karuma Thurman stars in a wide variety of film genres, and became world famous because of films like "Pulp Fiction" and the "Kill Bill," both by director Quentin Tarantino. She was born on April 29, 1970 in Boston, Massachusetts to fashion model Nena Birgitte von Schlebrügge, and Robert Thurman, a professor of Indo-Tibetan Studies at Columbia University.

Thurman was 16 when her modeling career began. She signed with Elite Model Management and became a successful fashion model. Her modeling projects include appearances in Glamour Magazine, Vogue, and Rolling Stone.

Thurman starred in several films during her 1988 movie debut, but her turn as Cecile de Volanges in the movie "Dangerous Liaisons" brought her to the spotlight. She received an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction.
